Privacy notes
How Mnemo handles your notes, in plain language.
Who runs Mnemo
Mnemo is an app in development. It has no account system and no Mnemo server: nothing you write is sent to the people who make it.
What stays on your phone
Your threads and notes are kept in a database on your phone. Photos you add are copied, made smaller, into the app’s own folder. If you add a Gemini or Groq API key, it’s kept in the phone’s secure storage.
Mnemo doesn’t add its own encryption to the notes on your phone. They are protected by your phone’s lock and security, like other apps’ private data.
Offline mode
In offline mode, Mnemo reads your notes on the phone: titles, lists, amounts, dates and next steps are worked out there, and notes are not sent anywhere.
Voice notes in offline mode are written out by your phone’s speech service as you talk. On many Android phones that’s Google’s service, which may use the internet, under Google’s terms. Mnemo doesn’t record or keep the audio.
With Gemini on
If you choose “Smart, with Gemini” and add your own Gemini API key, each new note (and any photo on it) is sent to Google’s Gemini API with your key, along with the titles of your recent threads so the note can be filed. Voice notes are recorded, sent to be written out, and the recording is deleted afterwards.
Search by meaning sends your search words to Google to compare them with your notes, and “Ask your notes” sends your question with the few notes that match it best.
Google handles that data under the terms that apply to your API key. Those terms differ between Google’s free and paid tiers, so check them for your key.
Groq (optional)
If you add a Groq API key, a voice recording that Gemini can’t write out is sent to Groq’s transcription service instead, under Groq’s terms.
Links you save
When you save a link, the phone requests that page to show its title, site name and picture, as a browser would.
Reminders
Reminders and gentle nudges are local notifications planned on the phone. No server is involved.
Backups
An encrypted backup is one file you create by hand. It holds your threads, notes and photos, encrypted with a passphrase you choose (scrypt for the key, XChaCha20-Poly1305 for the data). Voice audio is never in it. You decide where the file goes. Without the passphrase it can’t be opened, and a forgotten passphrase can’t be recovered.
